Tim Otis, Founder
Tim Otis is a lifelong caregiver, builder, and advocate for care-led innovation. He became a caregiver at age four when his mother was paralyzed and later supported his father through Parkinson’s disease. These experiences shaped his understanding of how long-term illness quietly reshapes lives, relationships, and health.
With more than 15 years of experience in healthcare, digital transformation, and growth leadership, Tim has focused his career on building systems that work in complex, high-stakes environments. His work sits at the intersection of empathy, technology, and real-world impact.
Empaira grew out of Tim’s conviction that caregiving must be designed for, not endured. The platform begins with a trusted community of long-term caregivers and care professionals and is evolving toward care-led health technology that supports both caregivers and care recipients over time.
Tim is driven by a simple goal: to make caregiving visible and lighter by building solutions grounded in lived experience.
Sara Balter, Chief Growth Advisor
Sara Balter is a licensed therapist and care advocate with extensive experience supporting individuals and families navigating long-term illness, caregiving stress, and relational strain.
Through her clinical work, Sara has spent years working directly with caregivers and families facing chronic and progressive conditions. She has seen firsthand how emotional burnout, isolation, and lack of support often impact caregivers as deeply as the individuals receiving care.
Sara advises Empaira at the intersection of mental health, caregiving relationships, and ethical support design. Her perspective helps ensure the platform remains grounded in real clinical insight, prioritizes caregiver well-being, and approaches growth responsibly.
She is passionate about expanding access to support for caregivers and believes community-based connection is a critical foundation for healthier long-term caregiving systems.
